Chalice well and Gardens, Glastonbury.
Believed to be one of the oldest wells in great Britain, The Chalice Well is considered a holy and spiritual place to many. Ensconced at the base of Glastonbury Tor and surrounded by incredible gardens and orchards, the Well is famed for its constantly flowing waters which vary in neither volume nor temperature and which some believe are sourced from the cup of the last supper (washed or buried there by Joseph of Arimathea) and others believe are a gift of energy and life directly from Mother Earth. Whatever your own beliefs, there are plenty of places within the Chalice Gardens to pause, reflect, meditate or heal.
There are plenty of places to spend time in the Chalice Gardens:
There are benches and soft swings surrounded by vines and trees and hidden off the beaten path if you wish to stop and absorb the atmosphere. The Well is surrounded by a stone wall suitable for seating a group of people together: perfect for a group or led mediation. The Lion’s Head delivers the waters directly into a small enclosed garden where many can gather to drink the healing waters.
The Waterfall and Healing Pool are located inside a quiet paved area. The waterfall is ideal for bathing crystals and precious items (a great gift idea is to bathe a healing crystal in the waters and give it to a loved one) before the waters continue on their way into the Healing Pool.
The Healing Pool is deep enough for a paddle or to sit in and allow the waters to heal, although I would recommend holding on to the hand rail as it can be slippery! The pool is also an ideal place to spend time healing with a loved one, as it is large enough to accommodate several visitors at once.
Finally there is the final section of the Gardens, where the Flow Form and Vesica Pool are located. Here the waters flow through a wonderful sculpture that allows them to form repeated figures of ‘8’, replicating the natural ebb and flow of a mountain stream as the waters make their way into the beautiful Vesica Pool. It is easy to find yourself watching this constant dance of pure waters for longer than you realise.
Further to the above there are also quiet rooms, shelters, The Cress Field and meadows for you to explore.
The Chalice Well and Gardens is maintained by the Chalice Well Trust and sees many visitors return year after year. There are many other spiritual places in Glastonbury and the surrounding areas, why not go and explore?
